Behaviour can be defined as the way how people act. Behaviour can also be defined as goal oriented activities we undertake to serve a purpose.
At Kotara School it is our aim to assist students with behavioural difficulties to better understand the function of their behaviour and to accept responsibility for their actions. Students have the opportunity to work in a smaller, more intensive environment at Kotara School while still maintaining strong home school ties.
Our programs focus on social and behaviour al goals whilst maintaining the integrity of academic achievement to assist students in making a successful transition back into their mainstream home school settings.
Through the transition process, Kotara School works with home schools to devise and implement plans and strategies that will assist students on their return. We offer home schools the opportunity for our staff to come out and provide professional learning on what best suits the needs of each individual student. We sit down with schools to devise classroom strategies, risk, crisis and behaviour management plans along with in class support on days of transition.
It is essential that communication between both settings is open and constant. This assists staff to maintain consistency through the transition process which ultimately benefits the student.
Below is an example format of a Behaviour Management Plan we use at Kotara School.
