Kotara School has a strong focus on physical education. With this physical activity comes many benefits not only physically but socially and emotionally. Each morning students participate in 30 minutes of structured daily PE. The activities are designed to incorporate fitness activities and skill development within the regular school curriculum. We focus not only on fitness and skill development and fun but also a priority is developing student social skills and interactions through sport.
Kotara School provides students with the opportunity to attend weekly electives on a Monday and Friday. Students achieve this by adhering to the school rules and having GOLD days at Kotara School and at home schools. The electives are activities that focus on increasing physical activity and improving skills in a fun, safe and inclusive environment organised in conjunction with the Active After School Communities program.
Kotara School has been fortunate enough to access the Active After-School Communities initiative of the Australian Government run by the Australian Sports Commission that provides primary school students with access to sport and structured physical activity programs. The program involves two elective afternoons per week (Monday and Friday) where our students participate in various activities that focus on increasing physical activity and improving skills in a fun, safe and inclusive environment.
The AASC manages the program through locally based regional coordinators. These coordinators assist primary schools to facilitate the program.
All community coaches must be registered with the Australian Sports Commission. Registration should be sought through the program’s regional coordinator. Community coaches must have as a minimum requirement the Australian Sports Commission Community Coach Award.
